Introduction

ScamCheck ("we", "our", or "us") operates the ScamCheck website and service at scamcheck.dev. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our service and the choices you have associated with that data.

Information Collection and Use

We collect different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our service to you.

Data Collected During Analysis

  • Text Messages: When you paste a message for analysis, the text is sent to our AI models for scam detection. We record anonymous metadata about each scan (verdict, input type, confidence score, timestamp, and a one-way hash of the message) to improve our service. The actual message content is never stored for anonymous users. Authenticated users can optionally save full scan results to their history.
  • Images and Screenshots: When you upload images for analysis, they are temporarily uploaded to our servers for AI processing. Images are not permanently stored after analysis is complete.
  • Documents: When you upload documents (PDF, Word, etc.) for analysis, they are temporarily uploaded for AI processing. Documents are not permanently stored after analysis is complete.
  • Forwarded Emails: When you forward emails to [email protected], the email content (including sender, subject, and body) is analyzed and a response is sent back. Email content is not permanently stored. Only anonymous scan metadata is recorded.
  • Links and Domains: URLs found in analyzed content are checked against domain reputation databases and expanded if shortened. Domain analysis data may be cached temporarily to improve performance.

Account Information

  • Authentication Data: If you create an account via Manus OAuth, we collect your name, email address, and authentication identifiers.
  • Scan History: For authenticated users, we store scan results including the analyzed content, AI verdict, confidence level, detected domains, warning signs, and timestamps.
  • User Preferences: We store your display preferences such as theme selection and analysis mode (Simple/Detailed).
  • Feedback: If you report inaccurate analysis results, we collect your feedback and the reason for the report to improve our service.

Automatically Collected Data

  • Usage Analytics: We collect anonymized usage data including page views, feature usage, and interaction patterns to improve the service.
  • Device Information: We may collect information about your device, including browser type, operating system, and screen resolution.
  • Aggregate Statistics: We collect anonymized scan statistics (verdict distribution, scam types detected, trending threats) for the Live Scam Trends dashboard. This data is aggregated and cannot be traced back to individual users.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide AI-powered scam detection and analysis across text, images, documents, and emails
  • To store and retrieve your scan history (authenticated users only)
  • To generate shareable scan result links
  • To provide domain reputation and link risk assessment
  • To power the Live Scam Trends dashboard with anonymized aggregate data
  • To collect and analyze user feedback for service improvement
  • To send analysis responses to forwarded emails
  • To improve and optimize our AI detection algorithms
  • To monitor service health and detect technical issues
  • To notify you about changes to our service

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with the following third parties:

  • AI Service Providers: Message content is sent to AI model providers for analysis. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies.
  • Domain Reputation Services: Domain names found in analyzed content may be checked against third-party reputation databases (such as SimilarWeb) for risk assessment.
  • Authentication Provider: We use Manus OAuth for user authentication. Your authentication data is handled according to Manus's privacy policy.
  • Analytics Services: We use analytics tools to understand service usage patterns. This data is anonymized and aggregated.

Data Retention and Deletion

  • Scan History: Stored indefinitely for authenticated users until they delete individual scans or their account.
  • Uploaded Files: Images and documents uploaded for analysis are temporarily stored during processing and are not permanently retained.
  • Forwarded Emails: Email content is processed for analysis and not permanently stored.
  • Account Deletion: Users can delete their account at any time from the Account page. This permanently removes all associated data including scan history, preferences, and personal information.
  • Shared Scans: Shared scan links remain accessible until the sharing user deletes the scan or their account.

Security of Data

The security of your data is important to us. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure authentication via OAuth
  • Rate limiting to prevent abuse
  • Regular security reviews

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: View your scan history and account information at any time
  • Deletion: Delete individual scans or your entire account and all associated data
  • Portability: Export your scan history data
  • Minimal data: Use the service without creating an account. Only anonymous metadata (verdict, input type, timestamp) is recorded — never your message content.
  • Privacy Mode: Enable privacy mode to redact sensitive information from stored scan results

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage users to review this page periodically for any changes.
